Vail, Colorado – January 8, 2019 – Guests arriving at the Antlers at Vail for 2020 Colorado skiing are experiencing a new kind of welcome. The popular condominium hotel has announced the completion of its $5 million renovations begun in late April and completed mid-December. The major construction project has created a spacious new lobby and front desk area flooded with natural light through new large windows and vaulted ceilings and warmed with lush textures and pops of color. The project also has replaced and more conveniently located one of the property’s elevators, whisking guests efficiently to their suites.

General Manager Magda King credits contractor Hyder Construction and Antlers Remodeling Manager Dave Collins for completing the complex project on time – and structuring the work in a way that allowed Antlers to stay open for guests at a limited level of occupancy throughout the process. Collins deserves special acknowledgement for stepping up as the condominium hotel’s owners’ representative for the project. “Dave gets total credit for keeping the project on schedule, a feat that is a rarity in Vail with the many variables of mountain construction,” says King.

Thanks also go to architect Henry Pratt of GPSL Architects, who designed the project, and to Casey St. John design studio for interiors that embrace Antlers’ authentic Vail ski lodge history and personality while providing a comfortable-yet-sophisticated aesthetic in keeping with luxurious upgrades to the hotel’s guest suites that have earned Vail Valley’s highest Platinum ranking since 2015.

“We are beyond excited to share this beautiful new space with our guests, and it’s gratifying to have their first impression of our reception area now match the level of excellence we hold ourselves to on the customer service side,” says General Manager Magda King. “I don’t have the words to properly express our gratitude to the brilliant design and construction team, led by our own Dave Collins, of Hyder, GPSL and Casey St. John, our fabulous owners who supported the project in every way, and our amazing staff – and guests! – who kept their sense of humor and positive attitude through disruption, noise and inconvenience.”

Antlers at Vail’s new lobby includes a spacious gathering and hang-out space – a response to feedback from guests who liked the idea of a “third place” communal environment that could double as festive space for celebrations and events. That desire sparked a lobby seating group concept by Casey St. John that’s geared to accommodate both larger gatherings and intimate conversation – as well as providing kid-friendly space and the flexibility to adjust for small-scale performances and catered occasions like the Antlers’ weekly wine and cheese parties for guests.

Antlers at Vail hotel occupies an enviable Vail Lionshead location since 1971. The newly completed lobby expansion provides large windows on the courtyard’s oft-photographed battling elk statue.

Besides the welcoming new entrance, expanded and improved front desk experience and inviting lobby, behind-the-scenes office spaces were also transformed, with the addition of a fully outfitted office available for guests to rent by the hour or day. “Although we have a business center for guest use, with our hosting of conferences and meetings, as well as guests who need to combine work and leisure – and sometimes stay a month at a time – we saw the opportunity to provide a private executive office as an unusual additional guest amenity,” says King.

Meanwhile, the relocation and upgrade to a new high-speed elevator has greatly improved the natural flow for guests to reach their 2nd, 3rd and 4th level suites.

With the ski season completion of renovations – and other new offerings, including Saturday guest breakfasts, a new ski valet and rental gear partner and private chef in-suite dinners, the Antlers at Vail continues to expand on the already VIP experience guests have come to know and expect while maintaining its family-friendly home away from home feel. With the hotel’s motto, “the answer is yes, now what’s the question?” the Antlers notoriously goes above and beyond to create the ultimate guest experience.
